CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King is brushing off criticism from President Donald Trump after he targeted her in a scathing post on his social media platform, Truth Social. “Gayle King’s career is over. She should have stayed with her belief in TRUMP,” Trump, 79, wrote Monday evening.
“She never had the courage to do so. No talent, no ratings, no strength!!!” The former president was also linked to a New York Post article that questioned King’s future at CBS, citing accusations of “left-wing bias.”
But King, 70, seemed unfazed by the comments, responding with a calm, measured tone when approached by TMZ on Tuesday. “Well, I’m sorry he feels that way,” King said. “But I’m just going to—I like my job, continue to do a good job.”
Noting the company she now keeps among Trump’s frequent targets, King even found a hint of humor in the situation. “There’s a long list of people,” she said, ticking names off on her fingers. “I’m in a group now with Bruce Springsteen, Taylor Swift, Stephen Colbert.”
She repeated, “I’m sorry he feels that way,” before entering her car. Trump’s remark that King once had a “belief” in him remains vague, especially given her public history of challenging him throughout his political career. In February, when asked about Trump’s attendance at the Super Bowl, King quipped, “He’s a sitting president and as we see, he does what he wants when he wants.”
During the 2020 presidential debates, she also pushed back on Trump’s self-description as “the least racist person in the room,” responding, “First I lost my hearing, then I wondered, who else was in the room?”
Trump’s latest swipe at King is just one in a growing series of outbursts against celebrities and media figures. On Monday morning, he attacked pop icon Taylor Swift, stating: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT… She is NO LONGER HOT.”
He also celebrated CBS’s recent cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, writing: “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings.” In another Truth Social post, Trump teased more media shakeups, declaring:
The word is, and it’s a strong word at that, Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT… and shortly thereafter, (Jimmy) Fallon will be gone.” He concluded by blaming them for “destroying what used to be GREAT Television.” Trump reportedly begins his day watching TV at 5:30 a.m. and spends upwards of four hours daily consuming media.
