Aber had most recently made headlines when she resigned from her position as U.S. Attorney on January 20 of this year, coinciding with former President Donald Trump’s return to office. No statement regarding her resignation was issued at the time.

She was appointed to lead the EDVA by President Joe Biden in August 2021 and confirmed unanimously by the U.S. Senate in October of the same year. Her career with the Department of Justice began in 2009 as an Assistant U.S. Attorney. Over the years, she built a reputation for her work on cases involving financial fraud, public corruption, violent crime, and child exploitation.

Before her 2021 appointment as U.S. Attorney, Aber served as Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division for EDVA. She earned her law degree from William & Mary Law School in 2006.
