150-Pound Statue, Other Items Stolen from ‘Beetlejuice 2’ Set in Vermont

A considerable heist occurred on the set of “Beetlejuice 2” in Vermont, as perpetrators made off with a 150-pound statue and various other items last week, per reports from local law enforcement.

In a tongue-in-cheek Facebook post, the Vermont State Police quipped, “Despite our efforts to conjure the missing statue by uttering its name thrice, it has yet to reappear!” The police are thoroughly investigating the theft of the weighty set piece from the movie’s filming location in East Corinth, including a uniquely adorned lamppost featuring a pumpkin.

The statue disappeared sometime between 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, and 11 a.m. on Monday, July 17, police noted. “The thieves swiftly loaded the lamppost into an older GMC pickup truck shortly past midnight on Friday, July 14.” In a call for public help, the police urged “anyone with knowledge” regarding the theft to get in touch with the St. Johnsbury Barracks.

Set security informed the police that an individual used a pickup truck to approach a large, pumpkin-topped lamppost on Village Road, detached the lamppost from its base, and drove off, as stated in an NBC 5 report.

“Beetlejuice 2,” the upcoming sequel to Tim Burton’s beloved 1988 horror-comedy about a mischievous specter from the “Netherworld,” is slated for release in September 2024, according to Variety.

Michael Keaton will return to his iconic role as Beetlejuice, with “Wednesday” star Jenny Ortega stepping into the role of Lydia Diaz’s daughter, a character originally played by Winona Ryder. Ryder is also set to return for the much-anticipated sequel.
