Burke County Woman Allegedly Linked to Boyfriend’s Death in Involuntary Manslaughter Case

A Burke County woman has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the domestic shooting death of her boyfriend on Sunday, Sheriff Alfonzo Williams announced Tuesday. Hannah Cobb, 25, of Keysville, is accused of killing 30-year-old Telvin Osborne early Sunday in the master bedroom of their home, which they share with their two children. It happened after an argument and an evening of drinking, the sheriff said.

“It is reckless to go out and then get drunk and then introduce a firearm into an argument,” Sheriff Williams said during an afternoon press conference while explaining the charge, emphasizing that the case has NOT been ruled an accidental shooting. The fight involved pushing and shoving before Cobb fired the fatal wounds on the father of her children. He said there was no prior record of domestic incidents between them.

An incident report says, “Cobb stated that she and Osborne have been out all night and recently arrived home. Cobb advised that while checking her firearm, as they do every night, the firearm went off, striking Osborne in the chest. Cobb advised that she thought the handgun was on safe while she was manipulating the firearm.”

On Sunday morning, at approximately 5:45 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a shooting at the 800 block of Four Points Road near Waynesboro. Upon arrival, investigators discovered Osborne in the master bedroom with a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead, according to Wrdw.

Cobb was initially cooperating with the investigation, according to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO). The BCSO’s Criminal Investigation Division is continuing to gather evidence and obtain search warrants to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. Sheriff Williams credited the fast work of the CID team in resolving the case within 48 hours and said earlier claims on social media that Cobb was cleaning a gun at the time the weapon fired were false.

While Cobb has been charged, the investigation remains ongoing, and more details may emerge as the case progresses. The shooting has left the community in shock, especially given the complex nature of the relationship between Cobb and Osborne, who shared two children together.
