“She Did What She Did”: Georgia Woman Allegedly Abandons Newborn in Trash Bag

A Georgia woman is facing serious charges after allegedly giving birth and abandoning her newborn in a trash bag outside her home. Alaynah Marie Rappuh, 22, was arrested on April 1 in Bibb County and charged with criminal attempt to commit felony murder, reckless abandonment of a child, and first-degree cruelty to children. She is being held without bond.

The investigation began when deputies responded to Piedmont Macon Emergency Room after Rappuh arrived with “excessive bleeding.” According to the sheriff, her boyfriend rushed her to the hospital after noticing her condition at home. However, on their way out, Rappuh allegedly left a trash bag on the back porch.

When the boyfriend returned later to retrieve belongings, he heard a noise coming from the bag, only to discover an infant wrapped inside. Authorities say Rappuh allegedly gave birth at 4:30 a.m. that morning, wrapped the baby in a towel, and placed him in the trash bag.

“Hours later, when leaving to go to the hospital, she left the bag on the back porch,” the sheriff stated. Shockingly, Rappuh never told her boyfriend she was pregnant or had just given birth—and allegedly withheld the information from hospital staff as well.

The newborn, a boy, was rushed to the hospital and remains in critical but stable condition. During her court appearance, Rappuh confirmed she understood the charges and requested a commitment hearing to determine if there was enough evidence for trial. A man identifying himself as the father, Dimitrios Mason, spoke to WGXA, expressing mixed emotions.

“I forgave her already,” he said. “I see a different person, that’s not the girlfriend that I had. I don’t know what to say, but I can’t stick up for her. She did what she did, and she has to deal with what comes with it.”

Mason, who started a GoFundMe for his son, named Tiger, shared that the baby is “fighting for his life” in the NICU. Alongside donations, he asked for “positive thoughts and prayers” for the newborn. “I’m so sorry for her. I’m so sorry that my baby had to go through this,” Mason added. “He started in a trash bag, but I’ll make sure he ends up on top.”
