A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his older brother, whose body was discovered near a canal in Dania Beach on Tuesday morning. According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call around 8 a.m. reporting a body floating in the canal near Ocean Waterway Boulevard and Old Griffin Road.
“He was later identified as 23-year-old Kevin Dominique. Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Crime Scene Units also responded to the scene,” said BSO spokesperson Carey Codd. “Through their investigation, they learned that Mr. Dominique had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.”
Detectives quickly identified a suspect in the case: Dominique’s younger brother, 15-year-old Demetre Fleurimond. “Late on Tuesday night, he did admit to committing this crime,” Codd said. Investigators believe the shooting occurred inside the family’s home on Southwest Sixth Avenue after Dominique returned from work, according to local ABC affiliate WSVN.
Authorities said Fleurimond allegedly shot his brother, transported the body to the canal, and dumped it there. “Mr. Fleurimond then drove away from the scene, left the car at a nearby library, and subsequently attempted to clean up that crime scene,” Codd explained.
The brothers lived at the residence with their mother, according to detectives. Following his confession, the teenager was arrested and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center for processing. By Wednesday afternoon, an unmarked BSO vehicle was seen parked outside the family’s home as investigators continued their work.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear. Fleurimond is expected to appear in court on Thursday. The case has shocked the Dania Beach community, where neighbors expressed disbelief that such violence could erupt within a family. While authorities have not released further details about what led up to the killing, they emphasized that the investigation is ongoing.
Dominique’s death marks another tragedy in a county already grappling with concerns about youth violence. Officials have not said whether Fleurimond will be charged as an adult, a decision that could come once prosecutors review the evidence. For now, the community is left with unanswered questions, as one family faces the devastating loss of a son and the arrest of another.
