A 20-year-old Minnesota man is facing second-degree murder charges after allegedly stabbing another man to death following a night of escalating conflict involving romantic entanglements and heated arguments. Aron Isait Medina Rojas has been charged with the fatal stabbing of 21-year-old Daniel Isaac Aguilar, according to Dakota County court records.
The violent encounter took place in the early hours of Sunday, July 6, after multiple altercations involving couples linked by a complicated relationship web. At approximately 3:12 a.m., Apple Valley police responded to a report of a “non-responsive male lying on a sidewalk.” Aguilar was found dead at the scene, with a “significant amount of blood around him” and what appeared to be a puncture wound to the left side of his chest.
“His body was still warm to the touch,” the criminal complaint noted. Investigators followed a trail of blood and discovered a broken glass jar, cans and bottles of alcohol, and personal belongings scattered across a driveway near the scene. Surveillance footage from nearby captured Aguilar walking just 35 minutes before police arrived, according to Minneapolis-based ABC affiliate KSTP.
A vehicle arrived shortly afterward, and audio revealed what police described as a loud argument between multiple individuals. Footage showed a man, believed to be Rojas, approach Aguilar while the latter backed away. Rojas allegedly struck Aguilar in the chest before the victim was heard saying, “I’m f—ing walking home, bro.
Let me be.” Rojas then reportedly punched Aguilar near the throat, causing him to collapse. A woman accompanying Rojas, believed to be his girlfriend, pointed a phone light at Aguilar as they approached before both walked out of view. The vehicle’s headlights were then seen turning around and leaving the area.
Police later learned Aguilar had been out with his girlfriend earlier that night at a Minneapolis club. The couple had argued, and Aguilar’s girlfriend’s friend—who was dating Rojas—repeatedly called, upset that she was out with Aguilar, whom she accused of cheating. The girlfriend allegedly told her friend she “hated” Aguilar.
After leaving the club, the couple crossed paths at a parking lot in Apple Valley. Aguilar eventually walked away alone, but Rojas and his girlfriend reportedly encountered him again and stopped. A confrontation ensued that turned fatal.
Rojas’ girlfriend later told police Aguilar “became aggressive,” prompting Rojas to intervene. She said Rojas returned to the car with “blood on his shirt” and insisted they leave. Rojas remains in custody as the investigation continues.
