Personal trainer Megan Johnson has gone viral after revealing that what she believed was stubborn belly fat was actually a massive ovarian cyst measuring nearly 19 inches. The 48-centimeter cyst had been growing inside her for years, undiagnosed, while she continued training and living life unaware of the serious health risk.
Megan, who frequently posts fitness content on social media, opened up to her followers in a candid TikTok video, detailing the symptoms she had ignored for nearly five years. “This is gonna be one of the most important videos that I make about all of this ovarian cyst stuff,” she began. “I’m gonna tell you all of the warning signs.”

In the emotional video, Megan shared a timeline of symptoms that included pelvic pain, bloating, blood clots during her period, unexplained weight gain, hernias, and frequent urination. Each symptom, she said, could have—and should have—sent her to the doctor.
1. Blood Clots During Menstruation
Megan recalled that the first red flag appeared in 2020 when she began experiencing blood clots during her period, something she had never dealt with before. “That was something new,” she admitted, “and I should have gone to the OBGYN… but I didn’t.”
2. Bloating and Hard Abdomen
In 2021, her stomach began to protrude, and people began asking if she was pregnant. She brushed it off as part of her strength training. “I thought I was just bulking,” she said. Her stomach felt firm, and she believed she was gaining muscle.
3. Hernias and Core Weakness
Visible hernias began appearing on her abdomen, a result of lifting weights with poor form. Megan also described a strange feeling of “heaviness” in her lower abdomen and worsening bloating.
4. Intense Pelvic Pain
By 2022, the pain had become unbearable. “It was like the worst period pain you’ve ever had, times ten,” she recalled. The pain left her immobilized, but without insurance, she avoided medical care.
5. Frequent Urination and Bloating Return
In 2025, while training for a HYROX competition, Megan’s body fat dropped, but her stomach remained distended. She also developed an urgent need to urinate, which she later realized was caused by the cyst pressing on her bladder.
After undergoing surgery on May 22, doctors removed the massive cyst along with one of her ovaries due to the damage. Without health insurance, Megan turned to GoFundMe for help, raising over $20,000 so far.
She ended her video with a heartfelt plea: “If you have any of these symptoms, don’t brush them off. Go get checked out. Don’t be like me.” Experts warn that while many ovarian cysts are harmless, sudden or severe symptoms may require urgent care.
