Florida City Drive-By Shooting Leaves Teen Injured as Bullets Fly Near Homes

A quiet afternoon in Florida City turned into a terrifying ordeal when a 15-year-old boy was shot in a drive-by attack, with bullets narrowly missing nearby residents and even striking a children’s toy left outside, as reported by CBS News. The Florida City Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue rushed to the scene on Northwest Fifth Avenue after reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they found the teenager with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was quickly taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in Southwest Miami-Dade for treatment.

A neighbour, who preferred to stay anonymous, witnessed the entire incident and described the chilling moments leading up to the shooting. “The kid was coming up the street, walking over there on the sidewalk, and the car was coming up the street this way and the car turned toward the little kid. They just went shooting at him. He got shot in the leg,” the man recalled.

He revealed that the teen could have been hurt much worse had the gun not jammed in the middle of the attack. “The gun jammed and the little kid took off running. He ran right in front of us,” he said. But the shooter wasn’t done. The gun was quickly unjammed, and more shots rang out. The teenager was hit in the leg, while bullets also struck the wall of a nearby home, hitting objects in the front yard—including a children’s toy.

The neighbour, who was outside with his family, including his young grandchild, said the bullets came far too close for comfort. “It was like four this way, and like one, I think, that way. It was like five or six shots altogether,” he said, describing the sound of gunfire.

He admitted he didn’t know the teenage victim personally, but after witnessing the terrifying ordeal, he was just relieved his own family was safe. “Still scared right now. Yeah, still scared. Thanking God for my family, thanking God for my family that we all was safe,” he shared.

The teenager is currently recovering in hospital, but the incident has left the community shaken, with many now worried about the rising violence in the area.
