A deadly explosion reportedly rocked Palm Springs, California, on Saturday morning, killing one person and injuring at least four others in what the FBI has confirmed as an intentional act of terrorism.
The bomb detonated just before 11 a.m. outside a reproductive health clinic operated by American Reproductive Centres (ARC), causing widespread destruction. A vehicle parked near the facility was blown apart, and nearby buildings also sustained significant damage from the blast.
Akil Davis, assistant director of the FBI’s Los Angeles field office, addressed the media following the explosion. “Make no mistake, this is an intentional act of terrorism,” he said, emphasizing the seriousness of the attack. “The FBI will determine if it was an act of international terrorism or a domestic terrorism.”
Davis confirmed that investigators have identified a person of interest in the case and are not currently searching for a suspect. However, he declined to provide any further details about the individual or their possible connection to the victim.
The person who died was reportedly near the car when it exploded. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or any details regarding their role, if any, at the clinic.
Palm Springs Mayor Ron deHarte also spoke out, confirming the bomb was either in or near a car parked directly outside the ARC facility. Video footage posted online shows the aftermath — the single-story structure left partially destroyed, with a gaping hole in one of its exterior walls and visible internal damage.
Officials reported that multiple surrounding buildings were also impacted by the blast, with some sustaining extensive structural damage. Emergency responders arrived on the scene swiftly, and an investigation is now underway involving federal and local authorities.
California Governor Gavin Newsom was briefed on the incident and is monitoring the situation closely, according to a statement from his office.
American Reproductive Centres, which has several offices across California, provides a range of fertility and genetic services including in vitro fertilization, in-house egg donation, and genetic screening.
Despite the destruction, the clinic remains defiant. In a post on Facebook, ARC announced that it will be “fully operational” by Monday. The clinic confirmed that no staff members were harmed in the explosion, and all critical materials — including eggs, embryos, and other reproductive samples — remained intact and secure.
“The moment has shaken us — but it has not stopped us,” said Dr. Maher Abdallah, who runs the clinic. His message reflected the resilience of the staff and the mission of the facility to continue serving patients amid adversity.
As the FBI and local officials continue their investigation, the nation watches closely. The motive remains unclear, but the message from authorities is loud and clear — this was not an accident, and accountability will follow.
