His parents submitted a missing person’s report for him in the middle of September, not long after Laundrie got home and after the FBI and police identified him as a suspect in Petito’s disappearance. His remains were found in Florida’s Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in October in an area that had previously been under water.

He committed suicide by self-inflicting a gunshot wound. Attached to the notebook scans is a statement Steven P. BertolinoThe lawyer for Laundries’ parents wrote: “Today the Petito family attorney, Patrick Reilly, and myself met with the FBI in Tampa to sort through and take possession of the personal items that belonged to Gabby and Brian. This was a previously agreed-upon exchange to enable both the Petites and the Laundries to receive what belonged to their respective children. As part of this return of property in FBI custody I was given Brian’s notebook.”

Bertolino continued, “Although I have chosen to release the letter as a matter of transparency I will not be commenting further as there are still proceedings pending in Court. These are Brian’s words.”

In March, Petito’s parents perished. Nichole Schmidt and Joseph Petito A civil complaint was filed against Laundrie’s father. Laundrie, Christopher’s Mom Roberta Laundrie claims that they kept their son’s location a “secret” after he was reported missing and were “making plans for him to depart the country” because they knew he killed Petito before her body was found.

The family had “no obligation to speak to Law Enforcement,” according to the Laundries’ attorney, who at the time informed E! News. They have filed a motion to dismiss the civil case, and the judge is anticipated to make a decision about the next stages in the coming weeks.

Petito’s mother sued the executor of Laundrie’s estate in a separate wrongful death case in May. A trial date has not been set.

The Laundries’ attorney previously told E! News that the wrongful death lawsuit was “fully expected,” It could be further enhanced by adding “will most likely not be defended and the Petites will have gained nothing more than a piece of paper that tells them what everyone already knows—which is that Brian was responsible for Gabby’s death as indicated by the FBI.”
