A Greene County Tech High School science teacher was arrested early Monday morning after police say she stabbed her boyfriend in the neck with an earring during a heated domestic dispute. Stephanie Woods, 43, was taken into custody on July 21 and charged with third-degree domestic battery, following an incident that occurred at a residence on Hatcher Drive shortly after 4:30 a.m.
According to the initial police report filed by Officer Keaton Massey, authorities were called to the scene in response to a domestic altercation. Upon arrival, they spoke with the 37-year-old male victim, who alleged that the argument stemmed from Woods’s “talking about other men.”
“While they were arguing, Woods picked up an earring and stabbed [the victim] in his neck on the right side below his ear,” Massey wrote in the report. The victim told police the stud of the earring broke off during the assault, and he had to remove it from his neck himself. Although injured, he declined medical treatment at the scene.
Woods reportedly offered a different account of the incident, claiming that during the argument, she was “trying to put the earrings in his mouth,” according to the police report. Following the investigation at the scene, Officer Massey placed Woods under arrest.
She was booked into the Greene County Detention Center at approximately 5:04 a.m. that morning. According to online jail records, Woods was released later that evening at 8:07 p.m. after posting a $5,000 bond. The Greene County Tech School District’s official website lists Woods as a high school science teacher.
The district has not yet issued a public statement regarding her arrest or employment status in light of the charges. It remains unclear whether Woods will face disciplinary action from the school district or if administrative leave will be implemented while the legal proceedings continue.
Domestic battery in the third degree is considered a Class A misdemeanor in Arkansas and may carry penalties including jail time, probation, and fines if convicted. The case is currently under investigation by local authorities. No further information has been released regarding court dates or additional charges.
