31-year-old Man threw 1-year-old baby off balcony after ‘tug-of-war’ with her mom

A Wisconsin man has been arrested and charged after allegedly throwing a one-year-old girl off a second-floor balcony during a heated argument with her mother. Jaimann Eiland, 31, was taken into custody on March 15 after prosecutors accused him of intentionally harming the child during a violent altercation.

The incident occurred on March 13 at the home of Shakira Walters, the baby’s mother, following a dispute that began when the infant started crying. According to a criminal complaint obtained by WITI, Eiland, who is Walters’ stepfather and the ex-husband of her mother, escalated the argument by grabbing a knife and threatening Walters, saying, “You gon’ die today.”

The confrontation intensified, leading Eiland to grab the baby by her head and dangle her over the balcony before dropping her onto the wet lawn below. The child narrowly missed an air conditioning unit during the fall. Walters told WISN, “She could’ve died. She could’ve gotten really hurt from that, and I’m just mad.” Miraculously, the baby sustained only minor bruising.

After throwing the child, Eiland allegedly returned inside and assaulted Walters, leaving her with a sprained finger, a laceration on her forehead requiring three stitches, and other injuries. Police found a bloody knife at the scene, according to the complaint.

Walters took herself and the baby to Froedtert Hospital, where the child was treated for minor injuries. Authorities were notified and later arrested Eiland, who admitted to fighting with Walters over the baby but claimed his actions were not extreme.

Eiland faces one count each of substantial battery with a domestic abuse modifier and child abuse. A judge set his bail at $15,000, with the condition that he wear an electronic monitoring device if released. He is also prohibited from contacting Walters or other family members.

Eiland is scheduled to appear in court on March 24. The case has drawn widespread attention, highlighting the severity of the alleged actions and the miraculous survival of the child. Walters expressed her relief that her daughter survived, stating she believes Eiland “was definitely trying to kill my baby.”
