Tom Brady may have officially retired from professional football, but the legendary quarterback is reportedly setting his sights on a new goal: winning an Olympic gold medal. According to sources close to the seven-time Super Bowl champion, Brady is considering a return to the field, not for the NFL, but for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, where flag football will debut as an official sport.
“He wants a gold medal. And what better way to remain the GOAT and return to the sport he loves, by helping his country win gold,” a source told the Daily Mail. The insider added that Brady sees the 2028 Games as the perfect opportunity, particularly since they will be hosted in Los Angeles, meaning minimal travel and a symbolic way to celebrate what would be his 51st birthday.

The NFL recently approved a vote allowing active players to participate in the Olympics, opening the door for stars like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce to potentially compete. While some current flag football athletes have expressed skepticism about NFL stars jumping in, Brady seems undeterred.
“He knows he would be able to help and excel in that environment,” the source continued. “His life is very much scheduled and has a tight regimen, so many things could fall into place for him around that time.”

Brady, who first retired in early 2022 only to return for one more season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, announced his second and “for good” retirement just over two years ago. Since stepping away from the NFL, he has taken on a $375 million broadcasting deal with FOX Sports and become a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.
Yet, it appears the competitive fire that fueled two decades of NFL dominance hasn’t entirely burned out. Brady’s potential Olympic ambitions have already stirred excitement among other NFL stars.

“To be honest, I’m at a loss for words,” said Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson. “To think about the chance of playing in the Olympics and getting a gold medal, it’s a dream.”
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also expressed enthusiasm about the development. “It’s an incredible honor for any athlete to represent their country in the Olympics, which is the pinnacle of global sport,” he said. “We are thrilled that they will now have that chance.”
If Brady does suit up in 2028, it would mark not only an unprecedented return to the sport but also an opportunity to extend his legacy onto a truly global stage.
