“It’s All About the Feel”: Machine Gun Kelly’s coming to ‘The Voice’ as Gwen Stefani’s playoff advisor

Machine Gun Kelly is bringing his unique style and insight to The Voice. The genre-blurring artist, known for hits like More Than Life, is set to appear as Gwen Stefani’s playoff advisor on the singing competition show, airing Tuesday, November 19. His role will include mentoring contestants as they prepare for high-stakes performances, offering advice rooted in his own artistry and experience.

In a preview clip shared with People, Kelly offered thoughtful feedback to contestant Jake Tankersley during a practice session. His advice focused on creating a deeper connection with the audience. “You have a good smile so maybe crack a smile on that and let people know they can be close to you,” Kelly suggested.

He emphasized the importance of stage presence and instrumental performance, adding, “When you have any moment when there are no lyrics though, because there are so many words, step away from the mic and play your guitar.” Kelly explained that conveying emotion is key to a standout performance. “It’s all about the feel. You have a wife and kids, they bring the color to your life so it’s all feel.”

The rocker also encouraged Tankersley to draw inspiration from a legendary country music icon. When asked about his “image-wise” role model in the genre, Tankersley named Johnny Cash. Kelly immediately supported the choice, saying, “Of course, bro. I think you should come like that on the show. Do like Johnny Cash. That’s the first thing I thought.”

Kelly’s involvement adds a dynamic element to Stefani’s team, blending his edgy rock persona with the competition’s diverse musical styles. Known for his bold artistic choices and ability to connect with audiences, Kelly is expected to inspire contestants to push their boundaries.

As Tankersley and other contestants prepare for their next performances, Kelly’s guidance is likely to leave a lasting impression, showcasing his knack for mentoring emerging talent. His appearance on The Voice also underscores the show’s commitment to blending genres and styles, making it a must-watch event for fans of both the competition and Kelly’s music. With his signature flair and thoughtful advice, Machine Gun Kelly’s turn as an advisor promises to bring fresh energy to The Voice and give contestants the tools to shine.
