Hugh Grant has addressed Real Housewives of New York star Luann de Lesseps’ recent claim that the two “heavily made out” in the Hamptons over a decade ago. On November 25, the Notting Hill actor responded to the allegations on X (formerly Twitter) with a mix of humor and skepticism.
“Steady on,” Grant wrote, sharing a screenshot of a PEOPLE article recounting Luann’s story. “I do remember meeting a charming RHNY in a restaurant, but I’d like to stress it was about 15 years ago. I don’t recall shots or kissing, but her memory might be better than mine.”
The exchange stems from an interview Luann gave to Too Fab earlier this month while promoting her Marry F Kill! cabaret tour. In the interview, Luann recounted what she described as a steamy encounter with the Music & Lyrics star.
“I called and said, ‘Get the table right next to Hugh Grant,’” Luann shared, explaining how she orchestrated the meeting. “I had my family over, my brother was visiting me, and I said, ‘Let’s go.’” The 59-year-old reality star admitted using a classic “flirting 101 ploy” by sitting near Grant and intentionally bumping into him with her chair.
After the move, she apologized and offered to buy him a drink. “I go, ‘I’m so sorry. Can I buy you a shot? I feel terrible,’” Luann said, recalling the moment. According to her, Grant accepted the offer but with a condition. “Hugh goes, ‘Okay, but I’ll come have a shot with you if you do one with me.’”
What followed, according to Luann, was an unexpected romantic turn. “My brother was like, ‘I can’t believe you’re making out with Hugh Grant,’ and I was like, ‘Neither can I.’” Grant’s humorous response on social media downplayed the alleged encounter, though he left room for Luann’s version of events to hold some truth. Whether the kiss happened or not, the playful back-and-forth has stirred buzz among fans of both the RHONY star and the British actor.
