Diddy Planned Speaking Engagements Before Prison Term, Prosecutors Call It “The Height of Hubris”

Sean “Diddy” Combs reportedly had plans in motion for life outside of prison even before his sentencing — a move prosecutors described as “the height of hubris.” According to The New York Times, Combs had arranged a series of seven speaking engagements set to begin as soon as next week, despite facing serious charges.

The events were to focus on entrepreneurship, mentorship, life skills, and personal development — and were primarily scheduled in the Miami area, where the 55-year-old music mogul lived before his arrest. Prosecutors criticized the plans, arguing that they reflected a lack of remorse.

“This is the height of hubris,” the prosecution said during the proceedings. Combs’ legal team, however, later clarified that if released, he would pursue teaching engagements rather than paid public appearances. Combs was sentenced to 50 months — just over four years — in prison after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He had faced a maximum sentence of 20 years.

Prosecutors had sought an 11-year term, citing what they called Combs’ “decades of abuse” and “unchecked violence.” The defense had urged the court to impose a 14-month sentence, pointing to the time already served since his arrest in September 2024.

The sentencing hearing brought emotional moments as Combs addressed the court and his victims directly. He broke down while apologizing to his former girlfriends, family, and friends, describing his past conduct as “disgusting, shameful, and sick.” Combs expressed remorse for his actions and said he hoped to use his time in prison for reflection and personal change.

In a surprising revelation, it also emerged that Combs’ legal team had reached out to the Trump administration earlier this year after reports that former President Donald Trump was considering granting him a pardon. The effort, however, went nowhere.

Before his conviction, Combs had been one of the most influential figures in the music industry, known for his business ventures and role in shaping hip-hop culture. His sentence marks a dramatic fall from grace for the mogul once celebrated for his entrepreneurial empire.

As he begins his prison term, Combs’ plans to teach or mentor from behind bars may offer a glimpse into how he hopes to rebuild his image — even as prosecutors continue to question the sincerity of his transformation.
