Sean “Diddy” Combs has received a significant legal boost that could shorten his prison sentence. A federal appeals court has approved an expedited schedule for his appeal, giving the 55-year-old rapper and music mogul a chance to challenge his conviction much sooner than expected.
According to Deadline, U.S. Circuit Court Judge Beth Robinson granted Combs’ defense team’s request for a fast-tracked appeal schedule. The ruling sets December 23, 2025, for the first round of filings, with oral arguments expected to begin as early as April 2026. “IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that the motion is GRANTED,” Robinson wrote in her brief ruling, granting Combs’ legal team everything they had requested.
The decision could have a major impact on Combs’ future. If the appeal proceeds quickly and is successful, he could be released well before his current release date of May 8, 2028. The ruling comes just days after Combs was transferred to the Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix, New Jersey — a low-security facility known for housing non-violent offenders.

Combs’ attorney, Alexandra Shapiro, filed the motion for an expedited schedule last week, and the court approved it without any opposition. The move marks an early legal victory for the disgraced rapper, who was sentenced on October 3 to four years in prison. His charges included transportation to engage in prostitution, and he was also ordered to pay a $500,000 fine and serve five years of supervised release following his sentence.
Combs, who built his reputation as the founder of Bad Boy Records and a prominent figure in hip-hop and fashion, faced even more severe allegations under federal RICO and sex trafficking statutes. If convicted on those charges, he could have spent the rest of his life behind bars.
For now, Combs appears to be adjusting to life at Fort Dix. Reports suggest he has been seen socializing with other inmates, including former NBA player Sebastian Telfair. Over the weekend, TMZ published the first photos of Combs inside the prison, showing him smiling and laughing with fellow prisoners.

While his legal troubles are far from over, the expedited appeal provides a glimmer of hope for the once-celebrated mogul. His case continues to draw intense public attention as both fans and critics await the next development in one of the entertainment industry’s most high-profile legal sagas.
