Suge Knight, once one of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ fiercest rivals, says he doesn’t believe the hip-hop mogul should face prison time as he battles serious federal charges. The former Death Row Records boss, currently serving a 28-year sentence for a fatal 2015 hit-and-run, broke his silence about Diddy’s legal troubles during an appearance on Cuomo on May 27.
Despite decades of bad blood, Knight expressed a surprising sense of fairness regarding his former adversary. “Puffy and I are not friends. But Puffy should definitely walk,” Knight said in the NewsNation interview. “There were other executives involved in Puffy’s life, and for Puffy to be the only guy that gets on the stand is a sad day for hip-hop.”
Combs is currently under federal investigation on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. The legal case has drawn widespread media attention, not only for its gravity but also because of Combs’ long-standing influence in the music industry.
Knight, whose feud with Diddy helped fuel the infamous East Coast–West Coast hip-hop rivalry of the 1990s, acknowledged their history but stood firm on the principle of justice. “I don’t think this is a case where Puffy should be going to prison,” Knight continued. “At some point, the law gotta be blind… What’s right is right, wrong is wrong.”
