Cristiano Ronaldo hints at parting ways with Al Nassr

Cristiano Ronaldo just dropped a hint that his time in Saudi Arabia might be coming to an end—and fans around the world are freaking out.

The 40-year-old football icon, who joined Al Nassr in 2022 after leaving Manchester United, took to social media Monday night and posted a cryptic message that sent speculation into overdrive. Alongside a photo of himself in his Al Nassr kit, Ronaldo wrote, “This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.”

That one post was enough to stir talk that Ronaldo could be on his way out of Al Nassr after just two seasons, even though he’s still under contract until this summer.

Al Nassr’s season just wrapped up, and it didn’t end the way fans were hoping. The team finished third in the Saudi Pro League and got knocked out of the Asian Champions League semifinals by Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale. On top of that, Al Nassr failed to qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup—unlike their Saudi rivals, Al Hilal.

Despite the disappointing finish for the team, Ronaldo still showed up big time on the pitch. He ended the season as the league’s top scorer with 24 goals.

Last year, Ronaldo had hinted that he might finish his career at Al Nassr, but his recent post suggests he might be thinking otherwise now.

Adding fuel to the fire is the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 14 in the United States. A special transfer window will open from June 1 to 10 for the 32 participating clubs to bring in new players, and Ronaldo just might be one of them.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino even teased the idea in a recent interview with YouTuber and streamer IShowSpeed. “And Ronaldo might play for one of the teams as well at the Club World Cup,” Infantino said. “There are discussions with some clubs, so if any club is watching and is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup … who knows, who knows.”

So far, Ronaldo hasn’t said anything more to clarify his plans, and Al Nassr hasn’t made an official statement either. But the timing of his message, coming right after the season ended and just before the Club World Cup transfer window opens, definitely has people talking.

Meanwhile, his longtime rival Lionel Messi is set to appear at the Club World Cup with Inter Miami, adding yet another layer of intrigue for fans hoping to see both legends compete on the same international stage again.

Whether Ronaldo is looking for one final big move or just enjoying keeping fans on their toes, one thing’s clear—this story is far from over. And just like he said, the next chapter is still being written.
