Sean Hannity Defends Whoopi Goldberg Following ‘The View’ Suspension: ‘I Think Her Apology Is Sincere’

On Tuesday’s broadcast of Hannity, Sean Hannity defended Whoopi Goldberg, the co-host of The View, just after ABC announced that she had been suspended for two weeks. On Monday, Goldberg received strong outrage after remarks made on The View that the Holocaust was “not about race,” but rather “man’s inhumanity to man.”

Goldberg quickly apologized in writing and on The View earlier Tuesday, but it wasn’t enough to keep her from being suspended. While Hannity acknowledged that the results could have been worse for Goldberg, he believes that another alternative is for individuals who disagree with Goldberg’s views to forgo The View.

“I think her apology is sincere. I think she’s learned a lot in the process. If two weeks off is the penalty, it’s better than being canceled,” Hannity said. “And I just — I have just a reflexive reaction to cancel because I don’t like what somebody says because you don’t have to watch The View. I hate to tell you, I don’t watch The View.”

In response to Goldberg’s comments, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum issued a tweet emphasizing the centrality of racism in Nazi ideology.

As per Yahoo, Goldberg was clearly wrong when he said race didn’t have a role in the Holocaust, and Hannity concurred. He also questioned what led Goldberg to say what she did.

“She recognized the evil, but did she not know the history, or did she just negate the history?” Hannity asked. “She recognized evil, man’s inhumanity to man. Six million Jews were slaughtered. Millions of others, slaughtered.”
