Wendy Williams Posts Mother’s Day Tribute Without Mentioning Son Amid Guardianship Battle

Wendy Williams recently shared a Mother’s Day video on her Instagram account that notably excluded any mention of her son, Kevin Hunter Jr. The short video, posted on Saturday, May 10, aimed to spread Mother’s Day love to her followers but stirred controversy by omitting her son’s name entirely. According to TMZ, the post included a heartfelt message thanking her supporters, yet failed to acknowledge Hunter Jr., despite Williams being a mother herself.

The caption read, “HAPPY MOTHERS’ DAY TO ALL MOMS. We’d also like to take this time to say THANK YOU to each and every one of you who have gotten behind exposing this horrific situation. Every prayer, every like, every comment, every video, every signature on our petitions, WENDY THANKS YOU!!! We ask for your continued alliance as we continue to push forward with actions. Updates coming soon!!”

It remains unclear whether Wendy personally crafted the post or if a social media manager was responsible for it. Regardless, the omission of her son, who has been a significant part of her personal struggles, caught attention, especially in light of the ongoing drama between the two.

The estrangement between Wendy and her son stems from accusations that Hunter Jr. took advantage of his mother financially, which contributed to the legal guardianship she is currently fighting to end. During a 2025 interview on the ‘2 Angry Men’ podcast, Wendy revealed she had forgiven her son despite his actions. However, in the documentary Saving Wendy, she confessed that Hunter Jr. had not been a good person to her, deepening the divide between them.

Wendy’s healthcare advocate, Ginalisa Monterroso, told People in April 2025 that Wendy initially sought a guardianship arrangement but didn’t realize the extent to which her rights would be stripped away. Williams has been under a legal guardianship since May 2022, which controls both her financial and health decisions.

She now resides in a luxury high-rise assisted-living facility in New York to address her cognitive issues and dementia diagnosis. The guardianship situation has drawn significant public attention, particularly after Hunter Jr. and Wendy’s ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, were embroiled in a financial scandal.

Court filings revealed that Wells Fargo froze Wendy’s accounts after her financial adviser, Lori Schiller, alleged that Wendy was of “unsound mind.” According to People, Wendy claimed in a 2022 court filing that she was denied access to her financial accounts for over two weeks.

Notably, Hunter Jr. was named Wendy’s power of attorney and withdrew a large sum of money from her account, prompting Wells Fargo to petition the court for temporary financial guardianship, which later became permanent under New York’s law.

Court documents revealed that Wells Fargo had “several million dollars” of Wendy’s funds in its possession, and the bank raised concerns that Williams was a victim of financial exploitation. The ongoing saga has raised questions about Wendy Williams’ health, financial security, and the relationship with her son, as the public waits for further updates in the case.
