Actor and model Sam Asghari has opened up about his relationship with pop icon Britney Spears, shedding new light on their marriage, his motivations, and life after their split.
Speaking on the Trading Secrets podcast on June 2, Asghari discussed how he encouraged Spears to sign a prenuptial agreement before their June 2022 wedding, a decision he said was made out of love and protection.
“I wanted her to have a prenup to make sure she’s protected,” said the 31-year-old actor. Asghari emphasized that Spears had endured a long history of people taking advantage of her, something he was determined not to contribute to.
“It’s very sad,” he said, reflecting on her past experiences. “I wanted to make sure that I’m the person who didn’t do that.” Asghari filed for divorce from Spears in 2023, ending their brief but highly publicized marriage.
Responding to critics who accused him of exploiting Spears’ fame, he made it clear that his intentions were genuine from the beginning. “I never get mad at the general public or fans or people that are seeing your life from a distance,” said Asghari.
“Especially now that I’m not in a relationship for over two years—or a year and something.” He acknowledged the public’s curiosity and skepticism, noting the obvious contrasts between himself and Spears. “Looking from an outside perspective, I see there’s an age difference, there’s a fame difference, there’s this, there’s that,” he said.
“But realistically, we met as costars.” During the candid conversation, Asghari also reflected on the professional sacrifices he made while married to Spears. “I turned down a few modeling things back then,” he revealed, noting that those offers often involved female collaborators.
He explained that his decisions were guided by a desire to be respectful of their relationship during what he described as a “very sensitive time and a very sensitive situation.” “I wanted to be very successful and things like that. So that was at that time. Now, it’s different,” he added, suggesting a new chapter in both his personal and professional life.
