First Lady Melania Trump may have secretly enjoyed Alec Baldwin’s scathing impersonation of her husband on Saturday Night Live, according to the actor himself.
During a recent event at the 92nd Street Y, Baldwin revealed that former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer allegedly let slip that Melania was an avid viewer of the sketch comedy show, especially when Baldwin appeared as former President Donald Trump.

“Spicer — maybe he had a couple drinks, I don’t know; I wasn’t there… he says to the people at SNL, ‘Melania watches the show every Saturday night. And she points at the TV and says, “That’s what he’s like! That is what he’s like! Exactly! Alec Baldwin is exactly like Donald!” Baldwin recalled, as reported by Page Six.
The actor, known for his role on 30 Rock, portrayed Trump on SNL from October 2016 through November 2020—a stint that earned him an Emmy Award in 2017. “We’re gagging laughing, but it made sense! She loves when they give it to him, you know what I mean?” Baldwin added, hinting that Melania may have found some truth in the comedic portrayal.

While Baldwin’s Trump impersonation became a fan favorite, the former president was far from amused. He frequently criticized the show and its portrayal of him. In a 2016 tweet, Trump wrote, “Watched Saturday Night Live hit job on me. Time to retire the boring and unfunny show. Alec Baldwin’s portrayal stinks. Media rigging election!”
Later that year, he tweeted again, “Just tried watching Saturday Night Live – unwatchable! Totally biased, not funny, and the Baldwin impersonation just can’t get any worse. Sad”, as per BBC.

By 2020, Trump continued to bash the program, calling it a dying show. “It was once good, never great, but now, like the Late Night Losers who have lost their audience but have no idea why, it is over for SNL—A great thing for America!” he wrote, according to Newsweek.
When asked in 2018 about Melania’s alleged appreciation for his impersonation, Baldwin clarified on Watch What Happens Live, “I didn’t hear she likes the impersonation, that was taken out of context. I heard she likes the show and likes Alec doing Trump and likes the show.” He added with a laugh, “She must like my impersonation too, I guess.”
While the former president was never a fan of Baldwin’s act, it seems the First Lady may have enjoyed the satire more than anyone expected, as reported by PEOPLE.
