Julie Chrisley Says Her Health Declined in Prison Due to ‘Inhumane’ Conditions

Julie Chrisley is speaking out about the toll prison took on her health, revealing that her time behind bars resulted in new medical issues and extreme physical discomfort. The 52-year-old reality star opened up about her experience during a recent episode of her daughter Savannah Chrisley’s podcast Unlocked, shedding light on the harsh conditions she endured.

“I could see my health deteriorating,” Julie shared, explaining she developed health problems, including asthma, during her incarceration. Savannah, 27, provided further insight, painting a grim picture of the facility’s conditions. “In the visitation room, thank goodness there’s air conditioning, but outside the visitation room, there is zero air conditioning and the heat index was [between] 105 and 110 [degrees],” she said to OK Magazine.

“And that’s what mom’s living in, in conditions like that, with absolutely no air, and it can be 100 degrees inside the building,” Savannah added that the extreme heat caused her mother to become physically ill. “So you have these women who are suffering from heat exhaustion and they’re passing out,” she said, adding, “but yet, you know, there are service dogs [at the same facility] that have air conditioning … none of it makes sense to me. It is so beyond inhumane.”

Julie’s husband, Todd Chrisley, who served time in a separate facility, previously described similar conditions. In December 2023, he spoke publicly about what he called a “disgustingly filthy” environment, citing mold on the ceiling and substandard hygiene.

In response, a spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) defended the institution. “The Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP), including the Federal Prison Camp Pensacola, takes seriously our duty to protect the individuals entrusted in our custody as well as maintain the safety of correctional employees and the community,” the statement read.

The spokesperson added that the agency prioritizes both the physical and emotional well-being of inmates and provides an “Administrative Remedy Program” for incarcerated individuals to address grievances. Todd and Julie began serving their respective prison sentences in 2023 but were granted a presidential pardon by Donald Trump and released in May 2024.

Following his release, Todd addressed the media on May 30, standing firm on his innocence. “Even though this pardon has happened, I still was convicted of something that I did not do,” he said. “It could be you. It could be any of you.”

When asked if he had regrets, Todd replied, “I would have remorse if it was something I did.” The Chrisleys have since confirmed they are planning a return to reality television, with production reportedly already in the works.
