Jennifer Lopez has offered a candid glimpse into how her views on love have changed, revealing what she now expects from a future partner after years of highly publicized relationships.
The 56-year-old singer and actress made the revelation while performing her 1999 hit If You Had My Love during her Las Vegas show on Saturday, January 3. As she addressed the audience between verses, Lopez reflected on how the song’s meaning has evolved alongside her own personal growth.
“When I first sang it, I was very young,” she told the crowd. “And I sang it with a lot of hope.” She went on to explain that the track has followed her through many emotional chapters. “But I’ve also sang it over the years, I’ve sang it while I was sad,” Jennifer continued. “And I’ve sung it when I was happy. But now, today, you know how I sing it? I sing it in power.”

That shift, Lopez suggested, comes from a stronger sense of self-worth shaped by experience. “Because the truth is, if you wanted to have my love, you would have to earn it,” added the Atlas actress, drawing loud cheers from the audience.
Lopez then spelled out exactly what that means for any future relationship. According to the superstar, respect and acceptance are now non-negotiable. “You would have to treat me right. You would have to respect me,” she said. “You’d have to accept me for all that I am.”
She doubled down on the message moments later, making it clear that love, for her, is no longer unconditional at her own expense. “You’d have to love me if you wanted my love,” the On the Floor hitmaker added. Lopez also touched on the emotional aftermath of past relationships, hinting that she has reached a place of peace rather than bitterness.
“It’s over and we just, boom, and it’s fine. It’s all good,” she said, before striking an optimistic note. “The good news is that I’m learning and I’m growing. We’re in our happy era right now.”

The remarks come after decades of intense public interest in Lopez’s love life. Over the years, her romances and marriages have often played out in the spotlight, shaping public perception alongside her career.
For those unversed, Lopez has been married four times, with each relationship closely followed by fans and media alike. Despite the scrutiny, her comments suggest she is no longer defined by past endings but by what she has taken from them.
By reclaiming one of her earliest love songs and reframing it through a lens of confidence and boundaries, Lopez sent a clear message: the next chapter will be written on her terms, rooted in respect, self-knowledge, and earned affection.
