After nearly three decades of marriage, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have made the difficult decision to divorce, a move made even more painful by Furness’s public revelation of feeling betrayed. As the high-profile separation unfolds in the public eye, Jackman’s close friend and radio personality Gus Worland shared insights into how the 56-year-old actor is coping.
“It’s not just that statement, but the last couple of years have been difficult,” Worland said during an appearance on Ben Fordham Live on Thursday, May 29, referencing Furness’s remarks about betrayal. “No one wants anyone to go through what they’ve been through, and, of course, they go through everything publicly because of the type of people and fame that they have,” he added to Us Weekly.

Worland, a childhood friend of Jackman and godfather to his children, emphasized the importance of giving the couple space. “One thing I’ve really been strict on, or disciplined on, is to let them do what they have to do,” he said. “I was over in New York with [Jackman] last month, and he’s fine. He is going along well. He’s moving on with his life, and I hope that Deb does as well.”
Jackman and Furness, who were married for 27 years, share two adopted children: Oscar, 25, and Ava, 19. Worland said his main concern is for their well-being amid the emotional upheaval. “I just go to the kids and go, ‘What can we do to make sure that they’re going to get through this as well as possible?’” he said.

Furness, in earlier statements, opened up about the emotional toll of the split. “My heart and compassion go out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,” she said. Describing the end of their marriage as “a profound wound that cuts deep,” she also noted that her spiritual beliefs have provided comfort. “My faith in a higher power helped me process it all,” she added.

The couple had long been admired for their strong bond and partnership both on and off the screen. Their separation marks the end of a beloved Hollywood love story, but both are now focusing on healing and supporting their family through the transition. As Jackman quietly moves forward and Furness seeks strength through faith, their priority remains clear: ensuring their children navigate this painful chapter with support and care.
