Dua Lipa talks about ‘sliding doors moments’ before romance with Callum Turner

Pop sensation Dua Lipa is officially engaged to British actor Callum Turner, and the story of their romance reads like a modern fairy tale, complete with missed chances, fateful meetings, and shared moments that seemed meant to be.

In her new British Vogue cover interview, published Thursday, June 12, the 29-year-old singer opened up about the meaningful twists of fate that repeatedly brought her and Turner into each other’s lives, long before they became a couple.

“There are a lot of Sliding Doors moments,” Lipa said, referencing the 1998 romantic drama that explores how small decisions can alter life’s course. She described how serendipitous encounters over the years eventually paved the way for their relationship.

One such moment dates back to 2014, when Lipa was working at La Bodega Negra in London. That same year, Turner was photographed outside the very same venue—a coincidence neither of them realized until much later.

Years passed, and in early 2020, they unknowingly attended the same party just before the COVID-19 lockdown. Only after comparing photos did they discover the same person appearing in the background of both pictures, taken only an hour apart.

“We have so many friends in common,” Lipa explained, noting that the universe seemed to be gently nudging them toward each other. A significant turning point came when she met Turner at London’s famed River Cafe while dining with her father.

A year later, she spotted Turner again—this time in Los Angeles, during a dinner outing with a friend. “Oh, it’s that really hot guy from The River Cafe,” she recalled thinking.

That night, their conversation took another unexpected turn when Turner asked what she was reading. To their amazement, both were immersed in the same book: Trust by Hernan Diaz.

“And we both just happened to be reading the same book,” Lipa said. When asked if it felt like fate, her answer was emphatic: “1000%.” She also confirmed the couple’s engagement during the interview. “It’s very exciting,” Lipa shared, beaming.

The duo was first spotted together in early 2024, slow-dancing at a party for Turner’s Apple TV+ series Masters of the Air. By July, they made their relationship Instagram-official, and just last month, they appeared hand-in-hand at the 2025 Met Gala—marking their red carpet debut as a couple. Now, with an engagement ring sealing their fairy tale, the next chapter begins.
