Drew Barrymore ’embarrassed’ by critique of ‘touchy’ interview style

Drew Barrymore is reflecting on her interviewing approach as she prepares for the new season of The Drew Barrymore Show. In a teaser clip for the upcoming season, the 49-year-old actress and talk show host opened up about the criticism she has faced for her personal and up-close style, admitting that she feels “embarrassed” but struggles to control it.

“It’s so funny because consistently over the last five years, it’s that I’m too touchy and too close to people, which is so embarrassing,” Barrymore told the studio audience.

Fellow TV host Nate Burleson, who was present during the segment, was quick to defend her, explaining that her style is “a part of the show” and describing it as “woven in the fabric” of what makes The Drew Barrymore Show unique, reported Daily Mail.

Correspondent Vlad Duthiers also weighed in, calling her interaction style her “authentic self.” Despite the support, Barrymore acknowledged the challenge of trying to change this aspect of her interviewing technique.

“I don’t know if I can break the habit either,” she admitted. “So, I’m like, I hear you, and I’ll do my best. But it is so hard.”

Barrymore’s close and personal interviewing approach has sparked a mix of reactions over the years. While some viewers find her physical closeness awkward or “cringe,” others have praised her for being an attentive and engaged listener.

As she continues to balance feedback with her natural style, Barrymore remains committed to offering the genuine connection that has become a hallmark of her show.
