Dolly Parton is recovering after a recent health scare forced her to miss an appearance at Dollywood. The 79-year-old country music legend was scheduled to help unveil the park’s upcoming attraction, Night Flight Expedition, which is set to open in 2026. Instead of attending in person, she addressed fans through a video message to explain her absence.
“Hello Dollywood! It’s me,” Parton said in her cheerful greeting. “I know—and I’m here, and you’re there. And you’re wondering why that is? Well, I had a little problem.”
Parton revealed that the “little problem” was a kidney stone that caused an infection. “Turned out it’d given me an infection, and the doctor said, ‘You don’t need to be traveling right this minute, so you need a few days to get better,’” she explained.

Although she was disappointed to miss the celebration, Parton reassured fans that her heart was with them. “I was looking so forward to it,” she said. “I’m there in spirit.”
The setback comes at a time when Parton has another reason to celebrate. She was recently named a Guinness World Records Icon, the organization’s highest honor. The recognition highlights her 11 record-breaking titles over a career that spans more than five decades, according to Us Weekly.
Among her many achievements, Parton holds records for the most decades with a Top 20 hit on the U.S. Hot Country Songs chart and the most entries on that chart by a female artist. Her influence has also stretched far beyond music, with her philanthropy, business ventures, and cultural presence making her one of the most recognizable figures in American entertainment.
Craig Glenday, editor in chief at Guinness World Records, praised her enduring impact. “Dolly is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated writers and performers in the history of country music, as reflected in her many Guinness World Records certificates, but her reach and influence extend far beyond the musical world,” Glenday said.

“She truly is a living legend, and it’s an honour to bestow GWR Icon status upon her.” Parton has long been known for her resilience, balancing her career achievements with a warm, down-to-earth connection to fans. Even while recovering, she has maintained her signature optimism and humor, assuring Dollywood visitors that she looks forward to being back in person soon.
For now, supporters can take comfort in knowing that the singer is on the mend, while also celebrating the recognition of a career that has helped shape the sound and spirit of country music.
