Amber Heard is making strategic moves to revive her acting career, two years after her high-profile legal battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp. Following her 2022 courtroom defeat, the 39-year-old actress has relocated to Madrid, Spain, and is reportedly “actively seeking” new roles in Hollywood—but only on her own terms.
A source close to the Aquaman star revealed to In Touch that Heard is navigating her return carefully, with very specific conditions for taking on any new projects. “Amber is dealing with a tricky situation right now because there’s real demand for her to get back into the acting game somehow, but it’s not going to happen if it’s not entirely on her terms,” the insider said.

According to the source, Heard is determined to be more than just the face of a film. “She has special conditions for coming back and is only entertaining that idea when it’s a project where she will have a lot of say on the big decisions about the production, the marketing, and the release,” they explained.
For the first time in her career, Heard is reportedly asserting more control over her future in the industry. “It’s the first time she’s being assertive about her filmmaking future and demanding some real power,” the insider noted.

Interestingly, the source also drew a parallel between Heard’s new approach and that of her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. “You can’t help but figure that even though she wants nothing to do with Johnny, she’s pulling from his playbook a little bit here, because Johnny is so famous for refusing to make any movie unless he’s the one calling the shots.”
With the pressure mounting, Heard is said to be searching for the perfect project to relaunch her career—and quickly. “She needs to build up a new track record of hits, and quickly. She’s putting herself under pressure to find her comeback film, and the clock is ticking!” the source added.
Heard’s fall from Hollywood’s A-list followed her widely publicized defamation trial in Virginia, where Johnny Depp sued her over a 2018 op-ed about domestic violence. While the court awarded Depp $15 million in damages, Heard received $2 million in a countersuit.
Now, with her legal battles behind her, Amber Heard appears ready to reenter the spotlight—on her own terms, with a clear vision for creative control and a new chapter in her Hollywood journey.
