Ben Affleck’s Savage Dad Moment After $6K Sneaker Request

Oscar-winning actor Ben Affleck may be a Hollywood heavyweight, but at home, he’s just Dad — and his children are not afraid to critique his work. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on April 23, Affleck opened up about how his three kids with ex-wife Jennifer Garner are his toughest audience.

“My kids are very tough and they don’t censor their criticism,” said Affleck. “They’ll sit right next to me watching a movie, and while it’s happening, [say], ‘This is terrible. Why did you do this?’”

Affleck shared that one of his older films, the 1998 sci-fi hit Armageddon, failed to impress the younger generation during a pandemic-era family movie night. What he thought would be a nostalgic bonding experience quickly turned into an unfiltered roast.

“Almost immediately, it was like, ‘What? What is this? This is so stupid,’” he recalled. “My son was like, ‘This doesn’t make sense.’ This is not a logic-based film!”

Despite the harsh criticism, there is some hope for Affleck’s cinematic reputation within the family. His most recent project, The Accountant 2, appears to have fared much better with his kids.

“They liked it,” he said, relieved. “They were shocked as if I got lucky, like this magical accident happened, and something I did was OK!”

In addition to talking about movies, Affleck also touched on parenting values and the importance of teaching his children about hard work and money. Speaking recently on Today with Jenna & Friends, he revealed that his two oldest kids already have jobs.

When it came to a lavish request from his youngest, 12-year-old Samuel, Affleck didn’t hold back his response. “And when son Samuel asked for $6,000 sneakers? ‘I was like, “I have the money! You’re broke,”’” Affleck joked. “You love your kids… but you do them a disservice if you don’t make them work for things.”

Affleck, who has long been open about his role as a father, continues to emphasize grounding his children in reality despite their upbringing in a world of celebrity and privilege. Between their honest critiques and real-world lessons, it’s clear that in the Affleck household, fame takes a backseat to family values — and a good sense of humor.
