“If I Were Her, I’d Give the UK a Miss”: Meghan Markle Reportedly Reluctant as Prince Harry Plans Return

Meghan Markle is understood to be supportive of her husband’s goals, but sources suggest she has little appetite to personally follow through on some of the plans now unfolding around a potential return to the UK.

Prince Harry is expected to travel to Britain later this month, just days after reports emerged that he has unofficially won his long-running police protection challenge against the UK Home Office. While a formal ruling has yet to be announced, the development has sparked speculation that the decision could clear the way for Harry to visit with his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Observers say Harry’s intentions appear clear. He has repeatedly expressed a desire for his children to have a connection with their British roots, and public sentiment in the UK is believed to be more forgiving toward him than toward his wife. That contrast, however, may be precisely why Meghan is hesitant.

Royal commentator Jennie Bond suggested that even if full police protection is reinstated, any visit by the Duchess of Sussex would come with heavy constraints. Writing in the i Paper, Bond argued that Meghan’s experience in Britain would be far from relaxed.

“She may not be in the same physical danger, but she’s more likely to be the target of a verbal backlash than Harry, who still has a way of endearing himself to the crowds,” Bond wrote.

Bond went further, questioning the logic of Meghan returning at all. “If I were her, I’d give the UK a miss. She’s clearly happy at home in California. Why wouldn’t she be? She’s free, she’s wealthy, she has a husband who adores her and children she loves. Why court hostility over here?”

According to the expert, a simpler and less contentious option would involve Harry visiting alone with the children, allowing them to build ties without placing Meghan in an uncomfortable spotlight. Bond suggested that such a trip could include time with Harry’s father, King Charles III, while offering Archie and Lilibet a glimpse into their royal heritage.

“Harry and the kids can pop over and see Grandpa,” Bond wrote. “Archie and Lilibet can take a peek inside the Palace walls, which their ancestors have inhabited. And then they can all head back to the sunshine.” For now, while Harry appears eager to reconnect with the UK, Meghan’s priority seems firmly rooted in the life the couple has built in California.
