Connecticut Man Found Lying on Girlfriend After Stabbing Her to Death, Then Called 911 Saying He Wanted to Kill Himself

Police in Stratford have arrested a man accused of killing his girlfriend and then attempting to take his own life during what authorities are calling a domestic violence incident. The attack took place Monday night at a home on Griffin Street.

According to police, 67-year-old Stanley Mulvey called 911 shortly before officers arrived, telling dispatchers that he had stabbed his girlfriend and wanted to end his own life. He identified the victim as 62-year-old Megan McShane. When officers reached the scene, they found Mulvey lying on top of McShane, who was unresponsive on the kitchen floor.

Both were covered in blood, and a large kitchen knife was found nearby. Despite efforts from emergency responders, McShane was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Mulvey refused to comply with officers’ orders to move away from McShane, forcing them to pull her and remove him from the home, as per the Connecticut Post.

Investigators said Mulvey admitted several times to the killing, reportedly telling officers, “I killed my girlfriend tonight and I wish I killed myself. Okay? Look, I tried to stab myself. I don’t wanna live right now. I don’t wanna live without her. And she wouldn’t wanna live without me.”

Neighbors told investigators the couple’s arguments had become increasingly loud and frequent in recent weeks, often prompting calls to police. One neighbor said disputes between the two had been a “regular weekend problem” and that police had been called multiple times before the fatal attack.

Mulvey has been charged with murder and interfering with a police officer. He is being held on a $1 million bond as authorities continue their investigation. Police also confirmed that Mulvey has a criminal history and was previously arrested in May for a domestic violence incident involving McShane.

He was convicted of a felony prior to that case, making his possession of a weapon an additional legal concern for prosecutors. Officials said the tragedy underscores the ongoing dangers of domestic violence and the importance of intervention before such conflicts turn deadly.

Stratford Police are urging anyone facing domestic abuse to seek help through local support organizations and hotlines. The investigation remains active as authorities work to gather additional evidence and statements from witnesses. Mulvey is expected to appear in court later this week to face formal charges in McShane’s death.
