Harry and Meghan Say They ‘Remain Committed to Uplifting Communities’ After Prince Andrew Relinquishes Title

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have released their first public statement following Prince Andrew’s decision to relinquish his royal title, the Duke of York. The couple, now based in California, issued the message through their Archewell Foundation, though notably, their remarks made no direct mention of Andrew or the controversy surrounding him.

The statement, published on the Archewell website, focused on their continued philanthropic work: “For the second year, The Archewell Foundation is proud to support the George Zajfen Tennis Tournament in Los Angeles: a moving event that brings the community together in support of the Alliance for Children’s Rights.”

Prince Harry and Meghan personally attended the tournament, which raises funds for the Alliance for Children’s Rights — a nonprofit that helps secure safe homes, quality education, and support for vulnerable children and families. The couple praised the organization’s ongoing work and emphasized their commitment to community service.

“At The Archewell Foundation, we remain committed to uplifting communities, and are proud to support the Alliance for Children’s Rights’ dedication to ensure children receive the support and care they need,” the statement read. The annual George Zajfen Tennis Tournament has become a key event in Los Angeles’ philanthropic calendar, drawing community members and public figures alike to raise awareness and financial support for families in need.

The Archewell Foundation’s involvement underscores the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s ongoing focus on children’s welfare and social advocacy. Their message came just hours after Prince Andrew, 65, made headlines by announcing that he would renounce his royal title and honours.

Under mounting pressure from his brother, King Charles III, and amid renewed scrutiny of his ties to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, Andrew said he would step back further from royal life. “I will… no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me,” he said in a brief statement. He added that the decision came after discussions with King Charles, describing it as a mutual understanding.

While Harry and Meghan did not address Andrew’s situation directly, the timing of their public message drew attention. Their focus on service, children, and community stands in sharp contrast to the scandal engulfing the Duke of York — highlighting the different paths the royal siblings and their families have taken since leaving official royal duties.
