Kansas Man Kills Grandmother After Argument Over Laundry

A Kansas man is facing charges after authorities say he fatally stabbed his grandmother during an argument over laundry. According to an affidavit, 24-year-old Isaiah Langkiet admitted to police that he attacked his 64-year-old grandmother, Elvera Langkiet, inside her home after she criticized the way he did laundry.

Investigators say he confessed to slapping her with an open hand before grabbing a kitchen knife and stabbing her in the neck. The affidavit states that once Elvera fell to the floor, Langkiet stabbed her again in the neck before leaving the home without rendering aid.

Police officers responding to the scene found Elvera lying on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood. Despite her severe wounds, she was conscious and able to speak with officers. According to the report, Elvera told investigators that her grandson “had demons and voices in his head that tell him what to do.”

She also said that Langkiet made repeated comments about wanting to return to jail. Elvera was rushed to St. Francis Hospital, where doctors initially believed she would survive. Medical staff reported that she was alert, talking, and even able to eat in the days following the attack.

However, her health began to deteriorate due to a chronic lung disease. Doctors explained to police that her damaged lungs prevented her from properly clearing liquids, creating what they described as a drowning effect. On September 3, three days after the stabbing, Elvera died at the hospital.

Authorities confirmed that Langkiet had already been taken into custody before her death. He was arrested on charges of attempted second-degree murder, domestic battery, and violation of a protection order. Officials have not yet announced if those charges will be upgraded following Elvera’s passing.

Court records show that Langkiet had prior run-ins with law enforcement. The affidavit noted his references to jail and his grandmother’s statements about voices in his head, raising concerns about his mental state at the time of the killing. The investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors review the case.

Elvera’s death has left the local community shaken, with neighbors expressing disbelief over the violent nature of the incident. Police said no one else was inside the home at the time of the attack, and there is no indication of additional threats to the neighborhood.

Authorities have not released information about upcoming court appearances for Langkiet, but officials said he remains in custody.
