A young mother was fatally shot by her husband over Labor Day weekend inside a Fort Worth home where the couple had been staying with family, according to police. The victim, identified as 21-year-old Glenda Maria Aguilera Rubio, was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head and upper body on Saturday morning.
Police said her husband, 29-year-old Josue Bayardo Rodas, fled the scene before later calling 911 to confess. He now faces a murder charge. According to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by the Star-Telegram, officers arrived at a residence in the 2600 block of Yeager Street at about 7:30 a.m. They found Rubio lying on a bed in the kitchen, already deceased.
Rubio leaves behind two young daughters, ages six and four. A GoFundMe has since been launched to help with funeral expenses. Court documents reveal the couple had been staying at the home after leaving Rubio’s family residence following a fight. During that earlier dispute, Rodas allegedly pointed a gun at family members.
Witnesses told detectives Rubio and Rodas planned to stay at the Yeager Street house temporarily before moving out of state. On Friday night, August 29, Rodas, Rubio, and a male resident of the home were drinking alcohol together. The male resident went to sleep around 11 p.m.
A female resident returned home at midnight and saw the couple still drinking. She went to bed at about 1:30 a.m. Around 7 a.m., Rubio’s two daughters entered her room and asked her to check on their mother because “she had blood on her,” according to the affidavit. The woman said she found Rubio unresponsive with blood on her face.
The front door of the home was open, and both Rodas’s and Rubio’s black Toyota Corollas were missing. Surveillance footage later showed a similar car leaving the residence around 4 a.m. By 9 a.m., Rodas was nearly 200 miles away in Sweetwater, Texas. Police there said he dialed 911 from a Murphy Gas Station.
When officers arrived, he confessed to committing a homicide in Fort Worth, the affidavit states. Rodas was arrested at the scene, booked into Nolan County Jail, and later transferred back to Fort Worth. He is being held in Tarrant County Jail without bond.
As investigators continue to piece together events leading to Rubio’s death, her family and friends are left mourning the young mother of two. The case underscores the devastating impact of domestic violence, which often leaves children caught in the aftermath of tragedy.
