Two Ohio Men Denied Paternity, Pressured Pregnant Woman to Have an Abortion Before Killing Her

Newly obtained search warrants reveal chilling details in the investigation of the fatal shooting of a pregnant woman in Toledo, a case that has led to murder charges against two men and obstruction charges against a third suspect.

According to documents acquired by the 13 Action News I-TEAM, 35-year-old Paris James and 26-year-old Jerry Scott have both been charged with two counts of aggravated murder in connection with the January 24, 2024, death of 27-year-old Tameisha Price and her unborn daughter, Malaysia Leani Price.

Investigators say James was the father of the unborn child. A third person, 34-year-old Shatwiya Triplett, who is reportedly James’ live-in girlfriend, has been charged with obstructing justice for allegedly providing a false alibi during the investigation.

Toledo Police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting in the 5300 block of Norton Street, where officers discovered Price dead in her bedroom from multiple gunshot wounds. The Lucas County Coroner’s Office later confirmed that Price died of multiple gunshot wounds and ruled her death a homicide.

A separate death certificate is expected to be issued for her unborn baby girl. The coroner determined that the infant’s death resulted from “Complications of Maternal Gunshot Wounds.” Police affidavits indicate that the initial 911 caller suspected James had shot Price. When officers located James later that morning, he allegedly admitted he had been at Price’s home and disclosed he was “disputing his potential paternity of the child.”

According to charging documents, authorities believe James orchestrated the murder. Video surveillance footage, witness statements, and other data cited in the affidavits point to a premeditated plan. Investigators allege that Scott was directly involved in “the planning and execution of the plan” to kill Price.

“Tameisha was a loving, caring, and giving daughter, sister, mother, and friend,” a GoFundMe page stated. “Tameisha loved the Lord. She was an amazing soul whose love profoundly impacted the lives she came in contact with.”

Further complicating the case, search warrants show that Triplett told detectives James had been with her throughout the night of the murder, a claim investigators say was knowingly false. Police allege she provided James with a false alibi in an attempt to hinder the investigation.

Toledo Police have confirmed that both Price and her unborn daughter are being counted as homicide victims in the case. As of now, James and Scott remain in custody on $2 million bonds each. Triplett, who posted bond, is expected to return to court in April as the case continues to unfold in the Lucas County justice system.
