New signs of reconciliation are emerging between King Charles III and Prince Harry, as the Duke of Sussex prepares to extend a formal invitation to his father for the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.
According to a report from The Mail on Sunday, Prince Harry is hoping that the King, currently undergoing cancer treatment, will set aside their long-standing differences to support the international sporting event he founded for injured and ill veterans in 2014.
Harry’s deep connection to the Invictus Games has long been one of his most enduring ties to the UK and the Royal Family. The next installment of the event, set for July 2027, will take place in Birmingham, marking a significant return to British soil for the Duke’s flagship cause.
Sources say Harry will send an electronic invitation to King Charles this month, with formal documents to follow. A spokesperson for the Invictus Games noted that while preparations are still in the early stages, “formal invitations have not yet been issued.”
However, Harry has reportedly already approved the guest list—one that includes members of the Royal Family—and the wording of the invitations. Private secretaries at Buckingham Palace are expected to receive the initial outreach via email.

Insiders told The Telegraph that behind-the-scenes discussions are taking place among senior Palace aides regarding a possible royal appearance at the event. “It could prove a timely opportunity to mend bridges,” one source noted, suggesting that the event may serve as a platform for reconciliation within the family.
Talks reportedly began after senior officials at the Palace privately expressed regret over the lack of royal support during the 2023 Games held in Düsseldorf, Germany. Despite its global success, the event received minimal public recognition from the Royal Family at the time.
A well-placed insider added that with the 2027 Games taking place in the UK, the Palace sees the importance of showing public support. “It may appear churlish for the royals not to attend such an international event celebrating the achievements of sick and wounded veterans,” the source said.
Even if King Charles is unable to attend due to health or scheduling constraints, there is speculation that he could delegate the responsibility to a senior royal in his place. While it remains to be seen whether the invitation will be accepted, the gesture signals a possible thaw in the frosty relationship between father and son, offering hope that shared causes may help heal deep family wounds.
