Fractional luxury jet company Flexjet, and business-jet manufacturer Bombardier, launched their nationwide Learjet 85 Aircraft Mock-Up Tour in Los Angeles last week. The mock-up is a full-scale model of the new aircraft and the mission of the tour is to invite prospective clients to personally experience what the Learjet 85 has to offer.

The Learjet 85 is the first FAR Part 25-certified business jet that is primarily built from composite materials. The aircraft features a new interior design with redesigned seats, large storage capacity, an entertainment system, passenger interfaces, and accommodates up to eight passengers. The plane has a high-speed cruise of Mach 0.82 and a travel range of 3,000 nautical miles.

Other luxury partners participating in the Learjet 85 Aircraft Tour include Rolls-Royce and Full Swing Golf. Test drives of the Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II and Ghost models will be available, as well as the opportunity to play a championship-level golf course via a simulator by Full Swing Golf. Additionally, several Napa Valley vintners and Chef Josef Centeno will be there to address the culinary matters of the shows.

Terrafugia’s Transition Roadable Aircraft, also known as the Flying Car, will officially meet the world at the 2012 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) at the Jacob Javits Center on April 6-15, 2012.

The presentation at the auto show will include the latest production prototype of the light sport aircraft. This is the first airplane to incorporate automotive safety features, such as a purpose-built energy absorbing crumple zone, a rigid carbon fiber occupant safety cage, and automotive-style driver and passenger airbags, into its design.

“We selected the New York International Auto Show to continue the roll-out of the Transition because of the value this show brings in terms of exposure to future owners, investors, and partners,” said Anna Mracek Dietrich, COO of Terrafugia. “The NYIAS is a venue from which we can show the first practical street-legal airplane to the world while meeting the people who will be part of its commercial success in the years to come. New York is the perfect place to accomplish all of this.”

Terrafugia is a small aerospace company founded by pilots and engineers from MIT. A network of advisors and private investors supports the firm’s activities. Delivery of the Terrafugia Transition Roadable Aircraft is expected sometime in 2012. Last summer the company reported that approximately 100 units have been reserved. Earlier this month, Brabus announced its new Private Aviation branch, which will extend customization services to the world of private jets. The new venture’s work will be focused primarily on jet cabins, where it will offer such upgrades as leather upholstery, Alcantara accents and wood trim. The company also mentions that it can customize the exterior of the plane – so that jet with matte black vinyl wrap, exposed carbon fiber accents and neon lights you’ve been dreaming about can be all yours.

Brabus says that customers can either work closely with it in designing their own plane from the ground up or can choose from several pre-designed packages. When it announced Private Aviation at the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition, it came prepared with two packages. The “Elegance” package includes a blend of cream-colored leather, Alcantara and fine wood. The “Sportive” package is a sports car-inspired, gray-and-black theme with leather, Alcantara, indirect LED lighting and carbon fiber. Red stitching adds to the fast, high-end supercar feel.

In terms of the exterior, Brabus says that its designers can treat the fuselage like a canvas – within the confines of air regulations (so maybe no neon lights on your pimped-out air ride). It shows several planes with various forms of carbon fiber designs and painted winglets.

Ensuring that it’s more than just pretty window dressing, Brabus also offers an inflight entertainment system inspired by its iBusiness 800. The entertainment system includes docking for multimedia devices like the Apple iPad and can be built to the customer’s needs.

Brabus offers its airplane customization services on both brand new and existing heavy jets. It specifies that it works with Bombardier Global Express, Challenger and Dassault Falcon aircraft lines, but also mentions it can work with larger business liners.

Unlike in the case of its car tuning business, Brabus doesn’t appear to have any plans to up the output of its customers’ jet engines. It looks as though it will be leaving those stock, abandoning any potential claims of “world’s most powerful/fastest/quickest private jet.” – Gizmag

But it seems that the scenario is for an immediate overturn or so claims designer John McGinnis, the man behind the innovative Synergy aircraft. The current evolution of aircraft engineering gives us enough confidence to think so. We have earlier told you about Yuneec electric sport airplane prototype priced at around $89,000, and the highly fuel-efficient Pipistrel’s Panthera four-seater airplane. The compact of the lot is this small passenger airplane, called the Synergy with a mesmeric power efficiency that will even beat our cars down in mileage. The Synergy project was introduced in NASA’s 2011 Green Flight Challenge and is in look for an initial financial support of $65,000 on Kickstarter.

Fuel consumption

The promising Synergy aircraft can take up to five people on board with a breathtaking fuel efficiency of 40mph per gallon. Its designers claim that the aircraft can provide 10 times better fuel economy than a small regular jet. In other words, the owner will have to endure only 10 percent of the usual cost of flying a jet. Aerodynamic design

What it is more stunning with the Synergy is its aerodynamic design and adaptability to hybrid, electric and other advanced engine technologies. According to Synergy team, the airplane is not at all about looks, aesthetics and streamlining, in spite of having a unique aerodynamic design. Beyond everything, it is all about fuel efficiency, speed and cost effectiveness, they claim.
