Over the weekend, a 20-year-old woman named Mahogany Jackson, who was reported missing, has tragically been found dead from a gunshot wound. The Birmingham Police Department had earlier issued an alert for Jackson after she was last seen on Sunday, Feb. 25.

She was described as wearing a blonde wig, a black shirt, and blue jeans. Earlier that day, at around 7:30 a.m., she had sent a text message to her family members indicating she was in distress. Reports from AL.com suggest that Jackson had sent a text message to her family claiming she was being held hostage and urged them to contact the police.

She managed to share her location with her mother and sister, which pointed to the Serenity Apartments in the Powderly community of Birmingham. Despite this information, police officers who checked the mentioned location did not find Jackson there.

The search for Jackson came to a somber conclusion on Monday, Feb. 26, around 2:19 a.m. Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a report of a body found on the side of the road at the intersection of 17th Street Southwest and Laurel Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman with a fatal gunshot wound, who was later identified as Mahogany Jackson. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services declared her dead at the scene.

As of the latest updates provided on Monday, Feb. 26, no arrests have been made in connection to Jackson’s death. The Birmingham Police Department expressed their condolences, stating, “Our hearts are with the family and friends in this time of sorrow.” The community and Jackson’s family are left mourning the loss of a young woman whose life was abruptly and violently taken, sparking calls for justice and answers in this devastating case.
