red hot chili peppersThe week of August 21-28, American rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers entered the Last.fm’s international singles chart with three tracks from their just-released tenth studio album, I’m With You.

The band’s new album — their first in five years — dropped on August 26 in Germany, Australia, the Netherlands, and Ireland and August 29 in the UK and US. The album’s first single, “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie,” holds the sixth position in the Last.fm top ten with 19,919 listeners. So far, the single — the first track released with the band’s new guitarist, Josh Klinghoffer — has peaked at number one on singles charts in the US and Canada. Other Chili Peppers tracks claiming top spots in the Last.fm chart include “Monarchy of Roses” with 19,040 listeners and “Factory of Faith” with 18,630 listeners.

Also in the chart, British singer Adele proves yet again she isn’t going anywhere as her massive international hit “Rolling in the Deep” maintains its grip on the number one spot with 41,002 listeners, a slight drop from last week’s 41,536 listeners. American indie band Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks” also holds onto the second position with 27,441 listeners, an increase from last week’s 26,580 listeners.

Last.fm claims more than 40 million active users based in more than 200 countries. Available in 12 languages, the site’s radio service is free for desktop computer users in the UK, the US, and Germany; mobile devices require a subscription of €3 a month to stream music.

Using a system called “scrobbling,” Last.fm’s charts measure everything its users listen to through the Last.fm website as well as hundreds of other music sites and services, including iTunes, Spotify, and The Hype Machine.
